The message in open-source footage and materials: treat America as the “empire,” escalate inside the country, and manufacture political crisis here. The foreign-actor layer
Designated foreign terrorist organizations leverage propaganda, funding channels, and influence operations to inspire activity inside the United States. Hamas is a U.S.-designated Foreign Terrorist Organization. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, including its Quds Force, is also designated. DHS assesses that FTO propaganda and flashpoints can inspire violence in the Homeland. StateState.gov
Influence work is not theoretical. Microsoft’s Threat Analysis Center documents Iranian cyber-enabled influence campaigns targeting U.S. audiences around crises and elections, and mainstream coverage has tracked that activity. AP News
The domestic convergence
OSINT from public events shows a convergence between Islamist-aligned messaging and U.S. anti-government, socialist, and Marxist tendencies at conferences, rallies, and co-branded campaigns. The language centers on anti-American framing: make governance “untenable,” create “a million cuts,” and keep pressure on institutions here, not only overseas. The preferred on-the-ground actions repeatedly include airports and bridge shutdowns, transit interference, encampments, building incursions, and “bird-dogging” of public officials. Escalation against officers
Recent actions have included direct hostility toward cops and federal officers. DHS reported assaults on ICE officers during large disturbances in Los Angeles in June 2025. In Philadelphia, police recorded 15 arrests; two officers were injured; one person was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer during an anti-ICE action the same week.
