In a final legal resolution, all charges against Reserve Deputy Shawn Pardazi have been dismissed following a 2022 shooting incident during a law enforcement training operation.
At the time of the incident, Shawn Pardazi was voluntarily assisting the West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office in training interdiction officers, further demonstrating his unwavering commitment to mentoring and preparing the next generation of officers tasked with intercepting violent criminals and terrorists.
Two independent investigations cleared Pardazi of any wrongdoing shortly after the incident. However, in the wake of media coverage fueled by disinformation, which has become increasingly common in today’s news cycle, another inquiry was launched by outside contractors with no new evidence to support it. (More detailed information here.) More than a year later, felony charges were unexpectedly filed in September 2023. Those charges were reduced to a single low-level misdemeanor in September 2024, and in March 2025, the court issued an Article 894 dismissal, effectively clearing all charges from his record.
According to Pardazi and his legal team, his split-second use-of-force decision ultimately saved the life of his partner, allowing him to return home safely to his family.
A globally recognized expert on terrorism and transnational crime, Pardazi’s personal and professional background is unmatched. Born in the U.S. but raised in the Middle East, he survived forced indoctrination by a designated terrorist group as a child, later escaping to the U.S. and serving 27 years in law enforcement. He specialized in transnational criminal networks and worked on federal task forces alongside the FBI, Homeland Security, and the IRS-CI.
Today, Pardazi leads training programs for law enforcement, intelligence, and military professionals, as well as public education initiatives to help communities recognize early signs of radicalization and extremist recruitment.
His team welcomed the court’s dismissal as a full vindication, allowing Pardazi to continue his mission without interruption: equipping others to combat the real-world threats posed by terrorism, smuggling networks, and extremist ideologies.
Shawn Pardazi is the author of The Patriot Jihadi and Smugglers, Inc., where he details his life growing up in the Middle East and some of his work serving as a law enforcement officer in the United States by investigating transnational terror and smuggling groups.
